Jeff Gilger, Founder & Director, The UCM Alliance for Family and Child Health and Development

Jeff Gilger is a Professor of Developmental Psychological Science and the Carlston Cunningham Chair in Cognitive Development at the University of California, Merced.

For many years, the Alliance founder, Dr. Gilger has met with parents and children facing learning and health related issues in school and at home. Upon coming to UC Merced in 2011, Dr. Gilger immediately recognized the need for a centralized organization in the Merced area that could advise and direct families and professionals in need of consultation, referrals or information about various childhood conditions. He also recognized the value of a physical presence in the community to help connect the university with the local population and to facilitate health and learning-related research. Hence the Alliance will formally launched in Spring 2016 and partnerships are starting to develop. Initial programs of the Alliance are in part funded by First 5 of California and an endowment by the Cunningham family.

Rose Scott, Assistant Director, The UCM Alliance for Family and Child Health and Development

Rose Scott is an Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences at the University of California Merced. Her research focuses on how children acquire the skills that they need to engage in social interactions. She is especially interested in how children learn language, and how they begin to make sense of other people's behavior. Since she arrived in Merced in 2010, Rose has worked to provide up-to-date resources and research findings on early child development with parents, educators, and childcare providers in the Merced region.

Erin Lodwick, First Five Project Coordinator and Assistant Director for Special Projects, H4MC

At this time, the Alliance has three established boards.  While each board will operate separately, there will be opportunities and occasions where members on different boards will collaborate more broadly.  In addition to these board members, the Alliance Research Partners that share our commitment to scientific collaboration and passion for results also contribute to our intellectual atmosphere and design.

Executive Committee/Board is primarily composed of the University of California, Merced and center faculty and staff who can advise on the management aspects of the center.  This includes the center's mission, finances, connections to the university, personnel issues, yearly progress, and other.  Whereas the Action Development Committee/Board is comprised of community engaged and interested individuals who can advise on critical issues, community needs and outreach, and the design and development of center activities.  The General Advisory Board members represent various backgrounds and expertise pertaining to topics relevant to child and family health.  They will occasionally advise on research, community questions and center activities.  Membership on this board will grow as we continue to broaden our depth of expertise.
